Special Open Enrollment For Health Insurance!

Many employers want to offer coverage to employees but are denied due to the participation requirements. Employers cannot force employees to enroll in coverage unless the employer pays 100% of the employees’ premium, which most employers cannot afford to do. Even with moderate to generous employer contributions, many employers still find young or low-income employees waiving coverage.

What’s the solution to this problem? Special Open Enrollment!

The Affordable Care Act (ACA) requires health insurers to offer a one-month Special Open Enrollment Period, where eligible small groups can enroll in coverage without having to meet standard employer-contribution and/or employee-participation ratios.

The Special Open Enrollment Period occurs from November 15 through December 15, allowing eligible small groups to enroll for coverage effective January 1.

I received mail from the IRS — now what?

The IRS mails letters or notices to taxpayers for many different reasons. Typically, it’s about a specific issue with a taxpayer’s federal tax return or tax account. It can be about a change or a request for information.

Here are some dos and don’ts:
  • Don’t ignore it. If it is payroll related, forward it to PSS. If it is not payroll related, forward it to your accountant.
  • Don’t throw it away. You should keep notices or letters for three years from the date you filed your tax return.
  • Don’t panic. The IRS and its authorized private collection agencies send letters by mail. Most times all the taxpayer needs to do is read the letter carefully and take the appropriate action.
  • Don’t reply unless instructed to do so.
  • Do take timely action. A notice may reference changes, taxes owed, a payment request or an issue on a tax return. Acting timely can minimize additional penalty or interest due.
  • Do review the information and take appropriate action.
  • Do respond to a disputed notice. Mail a letter explaining why you are disputing the notice. Be sure to include all pertinent information and documents.
  • Do avoid scams. The IRS will never contact a taxpayer using social media or text message. Contact from the IRS usually comes in the mail.
  • And most importantly, if PSS is handling your payroll taxes, forward all correspondence to us as soon as it is received.
