Published by Payroll Service Solutions on August 3, 2023

We are writing to warn you about the increasing risk posed by cybercriminals who use email fraud to gain unauthorized access to your accounts, passwords, and personal information. There are a number of ways which nefarious actors may attempt to gain unauthorized access to your accounts and obtain otherwise sensitive information.

Types of Email Scams

Recent reports have highlighted the various tactics employed by these individuals, including phishing scams, malicious links, and attachments targeting email recipients like yourself. A phishing scam is an email which is designed to look like it came from a trustworthy institution. A malicious link is a link within an email which triggers a download of ransomware onto the individuals device. From there a cybercriminal can gain access to sensitive materials like passwords. Attachments can be used in the same way by these cybercriminals, when an unknowing user downloads the attachment, they are unknowingly downloading materials that can be used to compromise their cybersecurity.
